Little girl drowned in canal, father investigated

The tragedy of Roncajette where a 3-year-old girl from Cameroon drowned on Sunday, as was inevitable, will have a judicial tail. Akyra’s father, who accidentally fell into a canal during a picnic near Via Sweden, was registered under investigation on charges of manslaughter for failing to prevent the event from happening. The investigation file is coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Francesco Lazzeri. The victim’s father, Ugue Kemgou Nguefack, an engineer, was spending a day of celebration together with around thirty compatriots. A moment of inattention and his little girl went out of his sight. A few minutes later, fear turned into desperation, until Akyra’s body was found with her vital parameters already largely compromised.

The investigation

In the immediate aftermath of the events, while the little girl was being rushed to hospital, the carabinieri of the Ponte San Nicolò and Legnaro station interviewed all the people present to dispel any doubts about the causes that led to the fall into the water. The drama took place in the hospital in Padua around 10.30pm when the medical staff who immediately took care of her declared her death due to drowning. The Cameroon community, very large between the provinces of Padua and Venice, has rallied around the little girl’s parents in these hours. Many people passed from Via Dini to Padua where they live to convey a message of condolence and hope. To resolve any doubts about the causes of Akyra’s death, an autopsy will be carried out in the next few days.
