In Tuscany there are approximately 75 thousand (74,940) workers employed by bars, restaurants, canteens, pizzerias and the like affected by the renewal of the National Collective Labor Agreement in the sector, signed yesterday (5 June 2024) by Fipe, the Italian federation of participating public establishments to the Confcommercio system and the workers’ trade unions. This is the third most applied employment contract in Italy after that of the tertiary sector and the metalworking sector and affects over 300 thousand companies and over one million workers at a national level.

Among the main innovations, the increase in the pay slip of 200 euros when fully operational at the 4th level (in five steps from June 2024 to December 2027), the strengthening of supplementary healthcare, the revision of the classification and classification of staff , which have been at a standstill since the 1990s, and the strengthening of regulations on individual rights, such as measures to combat violence and harassment in the workplace and leave for women victims of violence. The duration will be three and a half years, expiring on 31 December 2027

The text of the agreement was finalized after a demanding negotiation in which the president of Confcommercio Toscana Aldo Cursano was the protagonist, who politically guided the negotiations in his capacity as deputy national vice-president of Fipe. Legacoop Produzioni e Servizi, Confcooperative Lavoro e Servizi and Agci Servizi also signed the CCNL.

“An important renewal, which I wanted with all my strength to give value to the service and to our collaborators – underlines the president of Confcommercio Toscana Aldo Cursano – despite the still critical moment, with the aftermath of the pandemic and the many problems that trouble the economy, we have demonstrated responsibility, committing ourselves to grant greater protection to our workers, who will have a double salary increase compared to that of the previous renewal in 2018, and to improve the quality of the services we offer. We want to work in a market where the rules are certain and competition is fair, which is why we are fighting to ensure that our CCNL is applied, a true safeguard of legality against all the pirate contracts that are circulating and which weaken everyone, businesses and workers”.

In Tuscany there are over 22 thousand companies active in the sector (including restaurants, trattorias, pizzerias, bars, catering services and food vendors, including local units). 23% (5,126) is concentrated in the province of Florence alone, where there are over 23 thousand employees, approximately a third of the Tuscan total. Lucca (2,700), Livorno (2,585) and Pisa (2,431) follow in the ranking of the provinces with the highest number of public businesses.

“The increases envisaged by the contract will pour several million euros into the regional economic fabric over the next three and a half years, over 5 billion euros at a national level”, adds the director of Confcommercio Toscana Franco Marinoni, “a dutiful recognition for workers in the sector , who work every day to guarantee the quality of services to residents and tourists, often with great personal sacrifices because in public establishments we often work when others are enjoying their free time, holidays or holidays”.

Catering in Italy produces 54 billion in added value and is an essential component of the agri-food and tourism supply chain (which is worth around 13% of the national GDP), as well as a flagship of the Italian lifestyle.
