PISTOIA. We saw him wandering around the Nursery Park lawn. He is a symbol of Pistoia, an esteemed person, a successful sportsman, a life dedicated to football and the growth of young people: his name is Riccardo Agostiniani. He will be the coach of the Pistoiese Junior team. A return to the fold and also a guarantee of seriousness and skill.
In these columns, a few weeks ago Riccardo expressed his desire to return to work in the orange youth sector, which would allow him to carry out his work during daylight hours and, at the same time, return to wearing that color as a second skin. A passion born as a child in the stands of the Comunale alongside, as a fan, a certain Sergio Iorio, his schoolmate. A love for the Pistoiese passed on to him by his father Renzo, who did the same with his other son, Rino, now head of paediatrics, who even many years ago wore the orange shirt as a player.
In 2015, during the Ferrari presidency, Riccardo led the Berretti team in the professional ranks with excellent results, but above all it is thanks to him that, again during the architect’s presidency, the Pistoiese team rose again by winning the 2010-11 Excellence championship in a big way.
With rare intellectual honesty he doesn’t mince words: «I did it, I’ll coach the Juniors», he tells us when we meet him. So the box of the flagship of the youth teams jealously pampered by Filippo Baragli is thus covered. The head of the youth team was good at growing a dream sector and returning it practically intact to Iorio after the Desimonian cataclysm. We still have to wait for the official announcement, but it should only be a formal act.
Meanwhile, a change of plan regarding the location of the retreat has been announced at the Nursery Campus. Contrary to what has been filtered, the Pistoia mountains will not welcome the Dutch team, but they will not go too far anyway: it will be in Porretta that the team will carry out the first part of their preparation, while the second will be done in Pistoia.
Finally, it is worth mentioning an initiative by the kids from the Curva who asked for and obtained a meeting with the management of Nuova Pistoiese. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday evening at the Casa del Popolo in Bonelle, had a positive outcome. Representing Pistoia Fc, the great boss Iorio was present, accompanied by his right-hand man Fabio Fossati. Everything took place in an orderly manner with Iorio managing the event as per his custom, convincing even the most rebellious of the goodness of his project and above all of the partnership with Fossati. The third member of the corporate structure, Domenico Todaro, was not present.
