Cremona Evening – Closing of Virgilio’s electoral campaign with bands and mayors. “The Cremona we want exists. We must build it together”

The music of the Cremona bands resonated last night behind the cathedral for the big live party closing the electoral campaign of the centre-left mayoral candidate Andrea Virgilio. Three hours of concert during which well-known voices and faces from the Cremonese musical scene alternated on the steps behind the central apse of the Cathedral.

Under the artistic direction of Marco Turati, backbone of the Porte Aperte Festival, Luciana Elizondo of the Latin American Association, Giulia Dagani, the musicians of the Arci Jacopo Sgarzi, Marvin Piovani, Marta Cataldi, Giulia Natalicchio and Matilde Fiori, the band Left & Green Q.tet (with Simone Gagliardi, Giorgio Sclavo, Jacopo Sgarzi and Marta Cataldi), Giubamama (with Carlo Giussani, Massimo Compiani, Fabio Morabito and Marco Mantovani) and, at the end of the evening, Aria buena Q.tet with Gianaldo Tavella, Tommaso Brignoli, Vinicius Surian, Clayton Simili.

Music also accompanied the return to the city of the Democratic mayors, who arrived to give their support in this final rush of the campaign to Virgilio: the mayor of Bergamo and candidate for the European Parliament Giorgio Gorithe mayor of Crema Fabio Bergamaschi and, from Veneto, the mayor of Vicenza Giacomo Possamai.

It was Gori himself, who returned to Cremona for the third time in a few weeks, who launched his endorsement in favor of Virgil: “In these years – he said – while I was mayor in Bergamo, I saw Cremona grow and change, becoming more attractive and more beautiful. Now, by valorising all the good things that have been done, it is necessary to put an extra gear into the city’s engine, avoiding the risk of an abrupt return to the past. Cremona deserves an efficient and concrete administration, open to listening to citizens, and Andrea Virgilio is the right person for the new phase, because he combines competence and sensitivity, passion for innovation and attention to social cohesion. This is why I and many other fellow mayors, from Lombardy and beyond, wholeheartedly support him in the elections of 8 and 9 June“.

Also supporting him is the mayor of Crema Fabio Bergamaschi: “I have known Andrea for many years. I have always appreciated his ability to relate and listen. It is the first quality that a mayor must possess. A prerequisite, trained in ten years of municipal administration, of which five as deputy mayor. Andrea, for this reason, is ready. Ready to be a reference for its citizens, first and foremost. But also to be so for the entire province of Cremona. As mayor of Crema I know I can find in Andrea a person capable of creating synergy between the different riches and qualities that our communities are able to produce. We have the opportunity to write pages of the future together, with particular attention to work, the environment, social cohesion and territorial attractiveness”. Also eagerly awaited on the ‘stage’ is Giacomo Possamai from Vicenza, mayor since 2023, who in 2012 at just 22 years old participated in Barack Obama’s second electoral campaign for the presidency of the United States. “I wanted to be here to support Andrea in this beautiful challenge. His many years of careful administration of public affairs, in different fields, – explained Possamai – have already left their mark in Cremona, a city that in recent years, with mayor Gianluca Galimberti, has been able to grow and brilliantly overcome the many challenges that all of us mayors have had to face. Given the difficult task of governing a city in such complicated times, having a capable administrator willing to get involved is a great added value. I saw that Andrea gave great space to young people and education in his program, a theme also deeply linked to him as a person. I am truly convinced that it is the priority to invest in today and I congratulate the great work already done in Cremona, in particular on the topic of educational and childhood policies. With Andrea, I am sure, Cremona will be able to increasingly be a city suited to every person“. To close the evening, which brought together all the candidates of the coalition en masse, Virgil’s final speech: ” In recent months we have met and discussed daily the future we want for Cremona. We exchanged points of view, sometimes even conflicting ones, on the projects and investments that the city needs. On the direction to follow. This evening, in front of all of you, I renew the commitment I have made to my city by running for office. The work done in recent years as administrator allows me to look at the development of Cremona with the certainty that the point from which we start today will be the driving force to go further and grow further. The Cremona we want exists, it is possible. We just have to build it together“.
