Stones against cars, vandals and drugs: the cry of alarm from the Sant’Agnese neighborhood in Terni

by MGP

An exasperated, worried, scared neighborhood. In the night between Wednesday and Thursday the last vandalism raid: damaged cars, shattered windows, thrown waste tubs. The citizens of the Sant’Agnese neighborhood in Terni can’t take it anymore. In the area, between via Eugenio Chiesa and via Rosselli, degradation reigns and the inhabitants, exhausted by the situation, turn to the press. «I’m afraid to take my little daughter to the park – says a citizen of A Umbria24 – there are bad people around.”

Panic in the night This week, as mentioned, the last ‘night of ordinary madness’. Who reports the situation to Umbria24 she signs herself “an indignant and very worried resident”. Various streets were affected by the raid, including via Volturno, via Moretti, via Calatafimi, via Costa, via Bezzecca, all in the Sant’Agnese district. The protagonists of the vandalism were girls and boys. The residents heard noises late at night and looked out the window. Some people threw stones at parked cars, some kicked waste containers. The fact was reported to the police who intervened on the spot, but upon their arrival the protagonists of the raid had already disappeared into thin air.

Vandalism and drugs In addition to vandalism, residents also talk about drug dealing: «The neighborhood is full of drugs – says a citizen -, there are several drug dealers who calmly, day and night, remove the doses from their socks, hide the drugs in the area, this before everyone’s eyes.” There are also those who installed a camera in the garden of their home, a device that recorded some of the acts of vandalism. A neighborhood and an area that is not new to this type of event: «The area has always had problems – say the inhabitants -, over the years the residents have also undertaken to clean up the area. But the vandalism and degradation continue.” Residents hope for decisive action: “We will continue to report everything to the authorities, the situation is unsustainable.” After the last night of violence, there is damage and a lot of bitterness.
