SAFETY In four months, 52 deaths at work in Lombardy. Two in the Lodi area

In the first quarter of 2024 (January April) there are already 52 workers victims of fatal accidents in Lombardy (during more ongoing work) according to the map published by “Vega – safety and environment observatory”. In the same period of 2023 there were 49, with an increase of 6.1 percent.

The incidence of accidents at work remains below the national average (in the ratio between fatal accidents and working population), although in some provinces (Brescia, Sondrio, Pavia and Mantua) the levels are higher. The national average is 8.7 accidents per million employed, while in Lombardy the average rate is 7.3.

In the Lodi area there have been two fatal accidents in these four months, both on the road.

Regional statistics
As regards fatal accidents, out of the total of 52, 33 are at work (compared to 42 in the first quarter of 2023), while 19 are commuting (+12 compared to last year)
It is significant to consider that, of the workers who died at work, 13 out of 33 (almost 40 percent) are foreign workers.

Accident reports in the region
The total injury reports there were 37,796 in the first four months of 2024, with an increase of 4.4 percent compared to the end of April 2023, while the national average increase was 3.6 percent (the total, in Italy, is 193,979 ).
The manufacturing activities, even at the end of April 2024, are still at the top of the regional ranking of accident reports at work (5,079). They are followed by: Transportation and Warehousing (2,066), Commerce (1,834), Healthcare (1,792) and Construction (1,702).
There are 13,920 accident reports from working women (11,095 on the occasion of work) and 23,876 those of men (20,815 on the occasion of work). Two women lost their lives while working.
The complaints of foreign workers they are 9,006 out of 37,796 (almost 25%). And there are 7,512 complaints from foreign workers registered during work.

Lodi statistics
In the Lodi area, as we were saying, 2024 began with two total fatal accidents, both ongoing, in the first four months. Last year, in the same period, there was only one fatal accident, which occurred at work. The incidence (which Vega calculates on accidents at work) was 9.9 in January-April 23, and is instead 0 this year.

Here, however, is how the incidence changes considering both accidents at work and those while commuting.

If instead we look at the number of total injury reports, Lodi with its 773 ranks eighth at a regional level. Here is the second ranking:
