Since the beginning of the year, five structures have already failed to comply
Since the beginning of this year, the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Teramo has deployed a “task force” to control the post-earthquake reconstruction sites involving buildings subject to historical, monumental and landscape constraints. The checks throughout the Teramo province are carried out: by the Carabinieri of the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Teramo who, together with the technical inspectors of the provincial labor inspectorate, deal with labor law aspects, as well as safety in the workplace; by the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of L’Aquila who supervise compliance with the laws for the protection of assets subject to historical, monumental or landscape restrictions as well as the qualifications regarding the competence of the companies responsible for the restoration of such assets; by the Carabinieri of the Forestry specialty who deal with the correct disposal of the waste materials produced on said construction sites. The device always includes the Carabinieri stations responsible for the territory as well as the Operational and Radiomobile Units of the companies that have jurisdiction over the controls in the area. These soldiers are responsible for identifying the workers and checking the regularity of contracts as well as the acquisition of information elements. useful to be explored in greater detail within the “Interforce Group” established at the Prefecture of Teramo to combat the infiltration of organized crime in this delicate sector of reconstruction.
During the current year, 15 construction sites were inspected in the provincial territory, of which: 8 were found to be in compliance with the aspects verified; 5 were not found to be in order and therefore various measures within the competence of the specialties involved were adopted. Further investigations are underway on two construction sites.
This type of service will continue unabated with the aim of: protecting the safety of workers and their rights; safeguard the historical and artistic real estate heritage of the province; protect the environment from the irregular storage of waste material; intercept possible irregularities in procurement and provide the Joint Forces Group established at the Prefecture of Teramo with any ideas to investigate potential infiltrations of organized crime in this area.
