Virtus Cagliari’s journey will begin in the Veneto region in the final that will win a place in the next Serie A/2 Women’s basketball series. Tomorrow, on the parquet of Melsped Padova, the first leg of the last phase of the Serie B championship.
The girls trained by coach Fabrizio Staico arrive at the challenge after having overcome Pontevico Basket in the semifinals. The difference in goals in the two matches was fundamental, marking the final +2 in the difference in goals at the end of the 80′ of play (the first leg was a 46-38 victory, a painless defeat in the return match 52-46). Padova, on the other hand, got their ticket to the final thanks to the +1 in basket difference in the match against Puianello; in the first leg the Emilian team won 52-51, while in the return Melsped won 60-58.
Now the final. Race 1 is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 9pm, in Padua. The return, however, is set for June 16th, at the PalaRestivo, starting at 5pm.
A Virtus that, in view of tomorrow night’s match, must put the pieces back in place. Carla Lucchini is recovering, recovering from her shoulder problem two weeks ago; problem that didn’t stop her from being the one in game 2 against Pontevico, making an important contribution to the team. Rabchuk should also be in the match, having limped off due to a blow to the ankle, again during Game 2 in Lombardy. The girl is recovering, determined to be in the group leaving for Padua.
Virtussine ready for the first challenge, as confirmed by Giulia Corda, among the great protagonists of the post season. «My companions and I – she comments – are ready to do battle. We will enter the field determined to do well: concentrated on getting a result and in any case trying to put our opponents in difficulty. The field will then give the final verdict. However, we will try to do everything to bring Cagliari women’s basketball back to Serie A/2. We are working to best prepare for the double match against Padova. It will certainly be a physical and high intensity race. Our match plan is based on a good defense – concludes lei-lei who has been really effective in recent weeks – and on the collaboration of the entire squad.”
