Sassari: dies after surgery, sentences requested for 6 doctors | Sassari

Acquittals and convictions requested yesterday at Court in Sassari, by prosecutor Paolo Piras in the trial for manslaughter paid by nine doctors.

The facts date back to March 2018 in Sassari, when the 73-year-old from Sassari, Carlo Dessole, had been hospitalized due to the disconnection of a stent. Doctors had scheduled surgery for the following week but on the evening of March 11, the pensioner’s condition worsened due to an aneurysm and, once he left the operating room, the man lost his life.

According to the prosecutor, the intervention would have occurred too late because it was decided to do some tests, such as the CT scan, which, given the situation, could have been avoided. According to what was reported by the civil party lawyers, Mario Pittalis and Andrea Russo, Dessole arrived on the operating table “practically already dead”.

The magistrate then asked absolution for Salvatora Dettori, Pierluigi Tilocca and Gianfranco Fadda e the sentence, at the minimum sentence, For Eugenio Martelli, Franco Piredda, Maria Antonietta Casu, Anastasia Gabriella Tucconi, Roberto Mancino and Sandro Ciccarello. A request that takes into account, says the prosecutor, the difficult situation that doctors experience every day.

The civil defenders, who represent the widow and son of Dessole, have filed a request for compensation. The defense lawyers of the accused are Sebastiano Chironi, Francesco Porcu, Ivano Iai, Filippo Orecchioni, Guido Datome, Carlo Pinna Parpaglia, Gianluigi Poddighe and Luigi Esposito. Judge Claudia Sechi ordered the discussion of the lawyers representing the doctors for whom acquittal was requested for the next hearing.
