Catania. Carabinieri against illegal work and undisciplined driving: complaints and sanctions

NoAs part of the activities aimed at preventing any form of widespread illegality, the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Catania has established an extraordinary control plan over the entire Etna areawith the aim of increasing the levels of real and perceived safety by citizens.

In this context, joint services have been set up between the Territorial Army and the Labor Inspectorate Unit, with the help of the Operational Intervention Company (CIO) of the 12th “Sicilia” Battalion, in order to ascertain the safety conditions of employees in the workplace and, in particular, investigations were carried out inside a restaurant located in the city centre.

Inside the commercial activity the Carabinieri h2 “illegal” workers were found who had not even been subjected to health surveillance, that is, the set of health checks that are carried out by a competent doctor within the company, in order to ascertain the absence of contraindications to work and prevent the onset of occupational diseases. A complaint to the Judicial Authority is expected for this omission and, in fact, the military released the owner, a 50-year-old from Catania, on bail.

As regards irregular workers, however, the man was administratively fined €8,400, and the business was suspended until the entrepreneur regularly hires the employees.

In the context of checks on compliance with the Highway Code, howeverthe Carabinieri have sanctioned those dangerous driving behaviors that jeopardize the safety of all road users and, in this sense, by checking 27 vehicles and 72 people, they imposed fines of around €4,500, seizing 5 cars because they did not have the required insurance coverage.

In this context, a 31-year-old from Catania was also reported because, to avoid the fine, given that he was caught driving while talking on his cell phone, he provided the military with false personal details. The Carabinieri, however, still managed to trace his true identity, so in addition to the fine for the violation of the highway code, he will have to face a criminal trial.
