It took place yesterday – Thursday 6 June -, in Terpsichore Hall of the Municipality of Velletri, the award ceremony of the event “Golden Slipper” to the sports centers and groups of Velletri, promoted by Lions Host Castelli Romani to recognize and enhance the work of athletes and coaches who commit themselves every day in the name of sport, well-being and health.
Alessandro Ercoliformer President of Lions Club of Velletri, mediated the event and recognized the great commitment and very important national and international goals of the kids who are committed to pursuing their dreams and improving their sporting careers. Also present was the current President of the Lions, Dr Luca Quaglia: ”Un thanks in particular to the chaperones and coaches of the children who guide the young people into a competitive but fair and honest future”.
L’Councilor Paolo Felcie theCouncilor for Culture and Deputy Mayor Chiara Ercoli spoke thanking the work of the Lions group which is constantly engaged throughout the territory: “Sport is a school of life, it teaches sweat, the value of commitment and that results can only be achieved with tenacity and consistency, it plays an essential function for our young people.”
Also participating Dr. Massimo Greci, sports doctor, who not only thanked the grandparents: an often essential component to allow children to practice sports; but he then continued with a careful reflection on our Constitution, recalling that only in autumn 2023 was sport fully recognized in its psychophysical benefits; more precisely in article 33 which refers precisely to the full constitutional recognition of the importance of sporting activity. Dr. Greci stated that it is important to recognize athletes for their recognition and efforts, only in this way are champions formed.
Two awards assigned for the results achieved during 2024, as recognition and emblem of great commitment, masterfully achieved by the goldsmith Leo Duilio.
- The Silver Slipper went to Federica Ercolanobronze medal at the European Inline Hockey Championships.
- The Golden Slipper was instead awarded to Valerio Di Cocco, bronze medal at the European Championships in Croatia 2024 and vice world champion at the Hungarian Championships 2023.
A thought during the event was addressed to the memory of Sandro Sambuccia volleyball coach who dedicated much of his life to children and sport, was remembered by the entire sports community of Velletri six years after his death.
Then she intervened doctor in Bio-health Exercise Sciences and swimming instructor Giulia Spina which placed emphasis on lilac bow, a symbol recognized to indicate DCA pathologies (Eating Disorders), a careful and necessary reflection in such a delicate period for young people, affected by the difficulties of the period and the loneliness generated by the pandemic; disorders that are still too little known and which represent a vivid and difficult social plague to deal with.
Many groups and athletes involved in sporting activities in the area were awarded, including: Alessandro Finauri, team starter in the Super League; Michela Cialoni, called up to the European Championships in London in the Wakeboard category; the group ofItaly Academy; the society Xistos of rhythmic gymnastics, absolute excellence of the Veliterno area; the group Top Runners of athletics; the Checkers and Chess Prize awarded to Gabriele D’Amorato the athletic group Giovanni Scavoto theASD Atletico 5-a-side football with promotion to C2; recognition also awarded to the group of National target shooting, a company that turns 140; to the Doctor Romani, owner of the Velletri pharmacy; to the group Fuji Yama, to Res Novae gymnasticsat the PublicRat the Tortuga pool of Velletri and the multi-sports group Maracana.
The event enjoyed the patronage of CONI and Sport e Salute. The appointment was the first of two appointments of the Sports Festival 2024 – which ends tomorrow, Saturday 8 June with numerous activities in Piazza Mazzini –, organized and promoted by Lions Club Velletri Host and from Sports Council of Velletri.
