Today we celebrate D-Day.” Then at lunchtime the news was picked up even though the archive photographs insinuated the first very slight suspicions in the viewer from the Studio Aperto news on Italia Uno: «Today we celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the landing of the Allies in Lombardy, the beginning of the liberation of Europe from Nazi oppression.” Then, on Tg4, confirmation of the news: «Eighty years ago D-Day, the longest day. The landing in Lombardy: celebrations today.” And finally, to sweep away any doubts, given the authoritativeness of the source, the Information and Culture network by divine and news right, it was TgLa7: «The celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the landing in Lombardy acquire a particular meaning with two ongoing conflicts”.
At this point, even we who are graduates in History no longer had any doubts. We only made an effort to remember the five landing beaches: Sesto Calende, Borgofranco sul Po, Darsena, Idroscalo… and the fifth?
Anyway, come on.
It was also a good proof of democracy and pluralism of information: it means that when a news story starts to spread from Rai to Mediaset to La7 – nothing can stop it, other than censorship.
