The Umbria Airlink train+bus service has been strengthened for the summer period, which connects the Umbria International Airport to the national railway network, with interchange in the stations of Perugia and Assisi. Born in summer 2022 from the collaboration between the Regional Trenitalia and Busitalia, a company of the FS Italiane Group Passenger Hub, in synergy with the Umbria Region, the service is increasingly establishing itself as a valid alternative to private transport.
From June to the end of August, in response to the growing demand for mobility and in conjunction with the new flight schedule, 24 additional return bus trips were introduced from Monday to Sunday, reaching 236 intermodal travel solutions per week, to connect the airport both with locations within the region and with neighboring regions. In fact, passengers also arrive at the Umbrian airport from Tuscany – especially Arezzo, Valdarno and Valdichiana – and from various locations in the Marche and Lazio regions.
In 2024, the Umbria Airlink service has already seen almost 10 thousand travelers in the first months of the year. The new routes have been planned to integrate perfectly with the new flight schedule, with minimal waiting times and facilitating the bus-train interchange. The service guarantees optimized travel times: 28 minutes from Perugia Fontivegge railway station and 17 from Assisi station.
Passengers can purchase tickets in a single solution via Trenitalia channels, website, app, ticket offices, self-service ticket machines, travel agencies and affiliated sales points, including international purchasing portals and directly on board the buses without a surcharge. Convenient fares: the promotional fare of 5 euros is added to the price of the chosen train, Regional or Intercity, for both connections from Perugia and those from Assisi to the airport and vice versa. Children aged 4 to 12 years old pay half price, while children under 4 travel for free.
The Umbria Airlink buses, recognizable by the red Airlink livery, are designed for tourists: in addition to the high performance standards and travel comfort, large spaces for luggage and real-time flight status on the on-board monitors.
