“The commitment to the Family Centers is consolidated”

The municipal administration’s path continues to strengthen the Family Centers as places of listening and support with respect, in particular, to a delicate and increasingly topical issue such as family foster care. The councilor for social policies, Giusy Pino, announces that, with a specific council resolution, it has been noted that the Social Territorial Area Planning Office of Catanzaro has approved the project proposal relating to the Fund for Family Policies , year 2023, which provides for an allocation, for each Area, on the action relating to the Centers for families, of a maximum sum of 50 thousand euros. Funds that are added to those from previous years, for approximately 128 thousand euros, not yet spent, and for which the relevant reprogramming has been launched.

“Foster…I love a minor. AAA families wanted” is the title of the project proposal with which the administration, participating in a notice from the Calabria Region, wants to continue to pursue the general objective of establishing the Register of foster families interested and available to foster minors residing in the ‘Territorial Area of ​​Catanzaro. “This is a tool that can fulfill a priority function of helping the minor and his family, in order to support and enhance the community’s availability for the temporary reception of minors in difficulty”, comments councilor Pino. “The general lines of the proposal, aimed at involving Third Sector bodies in the co-planning of interventions, aim in particular to create a group of families, potentially foster carers, who are accompanied in the training process and evaluated by a multi-professional team of experts . And to do so, we chose to focus on the peer education method, among families who share a previous experience of family foster care and the desire to welcome a minor in a vulnerable condition. Thanks to the efforts of the specifically dedicated team, it has so far been possible to activate this path for over eighty minors, encouraging their placement, for the most part, within residential facilities in the area. We believe – concludes Pino – it is the best way to promote family contexts capable of ensuring processes of growth and harmonious development of the personality of minors in difficulty”.
