A joint operation by the financiers of the Compagnia Pronto Impiego of Aversa and the officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, Monopolies Office for Campania, led to the seizure of 15 illegal entertainment devices in two bars and cafes located in the municipalities of Parete and Casal di Principe. The intervention also led to the seizure of two money changing machines and over 12,500 euros in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illicit gambling. Fines totaling around 250 thousand euros were imposed on three people.
The operation began when the financiers and Agency officials entered the premises, focusing on the slot rooms adjacent to the main areas of the commercial establishments. After a thorough inspection, it was discovered that ten of the video slots were completely illegal, featuring the so-called “double card” game. One of the cards was regularly connected to the network of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, while the other, hidden in a special compartment, was not connected to any official network, thus allowing the single tax levy to be evaded.
In addition to the video slots, five other gaming devices were seized, including totems and bingo machines, illegally detained, two money changing machines and over 12,500 euros in cash found inside the slots. The machines had been modified to offer games with winning percentages much lower than those required by current legislation.
During the operation, thousands of tobacco products, such as filters and cigarette papers, sold without authorisation, were also seized. The violators were criminally charged for aggravated fraud, computer fraud, gambling and embezzlement.
