VARESE – After the initial stages of Genoa and Vulcano, the 2024 circuit ofItalian Open Water Tour Challenge arrives in the Varese area. The historic stage of the Lake Monatewhile the appointment on Verbano will be renewed in August Maccagno. Instead, it skips after the first two editions the crossing of Lake Varese due to organizational difficulties. The events were presented today, Wednesday 5 June, in the Chamber of Commerce (the interview in the video below).
Northern Triptych
All the ten stages of the tour will compete to win the 2024 challenge, but it will also be possible to participate in just a few to compete in the day’s rankings. The first takes place inside the circuit Northern Triptych, which includes Lombardy with Monate, Trentino Alto Adige with Caldonazzo and Veneto with Peschiera del Garda. «For the Italian Open Water Tour 2024 it is a source of great pride to propose the first triptych of open water swimming in three central regions in the panorama of national sport – said the coordinator Marcello Amirante – where hundreds of athletes, professionals and enthusiasts from all over Italy will arrive, fueling that tourism linked to sporting events that we talk about so much.”
June 16th in Monate
There Crossing of the Pioneers in Lake Monate is in its ninth edition and is the leader of the entire circuit: it was precisely here that it saw the light in 2016 the Italian Open Water Tour. The appointment is for June 16th. Opens the Hard swim, a classic 5 km race starting at 09.30, with its spectacular exposed route that will run alongside much of the lake. The second race of the day will follow at 12.30pm: Smile swim of 2500 metres, the classic crossing of the lake, which has always been the largest race. To close the program there Relay swim (half nautical mile relay x 3) with Australian exit for the chip change, distinctive of the challenge and certainly the most spectacular to follow.
Partnerships
All safety protocols are drawn up and managed by the company’s headquarters National Rescue Society which since the first year of the circuit has been involved in raising athletes’ awareness of health protection in water. The entire circuit appears in the national program of the sports promotion body Use them such as its own Italian open water swimming championship: the daily membership included in the registration fees also allows non-competitive athletes who are not members of any sports club to participate in the competitions, a founding and virtuous prerequisite of this collaboration. “Open water, open mind” is the name of the trophy up for grabs at each stage between the Avis donors, sealing the partnership with Avis Provinciale Varese. The organization also focuses heavily on accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities: the event is open to all disabled swimmers able to tackle open water competitions, thanks to the total absence of architectural barriers.
Stop in Maccagno, not Varese
The 2024 Challenge will continue on 29/30 June with the new entry Gaeta (the Crossing of Ulysses), on 14 July Camogli (GE), Maccagno on August 4th with the Traversata dei Castelli, while the ninth edition is scheduled for 15 September in Noli, 21/22 September in Peschiera del Garda within the walls of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The challenge will end in the now classic stage of Ischia on 5 and 6 October. However, it will not be replicated for the third edition the crossing of Lake Varese, after the first in 2022 on the occasion of the return to bathing and the second last summer. There are too many organizational difficulties, as Marcello Amirante explained. “AND an open woundorganizing races from Vulcano to Ischia to arrive in Trentino and not in Varese is a real shame.
