The second meeting of the provincial committee for public order and safety took place today in the Prefecture of Reggio dedicated to the “Elrow Town” electronic music festival which will bring 30,000 people to the Iren Green Park area at Campovolo on 8 June from Italy and abroad, precisely during the opening days of the polls for the European and administrative elections, which will already require a considerable organizational effort.

“We are working to ensure that the event, while maintaining all its characteristics and peculiarities, takes place in a safety setting to protect first and foremost the safety of the participants”, says the Reggio Emilia prefect Maria Rita Cocciufa. Specifically, the structural aspects will be examined by the provincial commission for the supervision of public entertainment venues, which will carry out an inspection on Friday, while the public order aspects will be addressed in a technical round table at the Police Headquarters, extended to the organisers, who have already made several hundred stewards available. In yesterday’s meeting the committee instead focused above all on the management of the outflow and, in particular, on the risk of drunk driving by those who reach Campovolo by car. Upon leaving the show, it will be possible to carry out alcohol tests (again at the expense of the festival organisation) and checks by the traffic and local police will be strengthened. The mayor will also adopt an ordinance with which he will limit the alcohol percentage of drinks to 11% and will prohibit their administration during the last hour of the show, from 11 pm to midnight. The event, although much smaller than the AC concert /Dc, is of particular concern to public bodies due to the risk of alcohol and drug abuse.
