Extraordinary and ordinary maintenance of the road network remains a priority of the municipal body which annually plans and carries out restoration and resurfacing works with the aim of guaranteeing road users the safety and fluidity of vehicular traffic. The draft agreement for the implementation of the 2024-2026 operational program relating to the consortium’s own funds between the Municipality of Cesena and the Romagna Land Reclamation Consortium, for the planning and financing of extraordinary maintenance works on local roads for public use. On the basis of the provisions of the Scheme of Agreement, and as occurred in reference to the years 2021, 2022 and 2023, for the next three years the Reclamation Consortium undertakes to carry out works for a total annual amount of 62,412.21 euros.
The local roads take on considerable importance in the minor road network of the area: these in fact they guarantee widespread accessibility to the entire municipal territory and constitute an essential support for the productive activity of agricultural operators and, more generally, to the resident population. For this reason, the Municipality, with the aim of ensuring accessibility to public services by residents (school transport, emergency room, markets), of guaranteeing an adequate development of agricultural activities, of maintaining the presence of family nuclei in the territory activities that guarantee its protection and protection, in accordance with local planning objectives, takes action to promote structural works aimed at maintaining and making traffic safe.
With respect to extraordinary maintenance, the municipal administration, with the aim of supporting further maintenance interventions on the roadways, annually invests resources in local/local consortium roads which are added to the contributions made available to the Riuniti Road Consortia through the Reclamation Consortium. For years, in fact, the Administration has identified this body, which manages the maintenance of local roads for public use in the consortium, as the most suitable tool for total management of the local road system. During the three-year period 2021-2023, in compliance with the agreement, maintenance interventions were carried out on minor rural roads for public use, 90% financed by the Romagna Reclamation Consortium and with a 10% contribution by the Municipality of Cesena .
Local roads play a significant role in the municipal traffic system. Compared to a road network of approximately 885 kilometres, these streets represent 28% of the total, extending for 283 kilometres. (while the municipal roads extend for 602 kilometres) and constitute a significant part of the connections in rural areas, supporting traffic which in many cases goes beyond access to the land overlooking them.
