the Bossi-Fini law must change, “the system has failed”

Giorgia Meloni has decided, the Bossi-Fini law which regulates the entry into Italy of regular migrants must change. The Prime Minister gave a briefing to the Council of Ministers and in the first meeting after the G7 the government will move from words to the text of the law. Implementing the rules has long been an obsession of the Undersecretary of the Presidency Alfredo Mantovano and it is no coincidence that on Tuesday morning it was he who accompanied the Prime Minister to the national prosecutor Giovanni Melillo, who leads the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate. Half an hour of discussion to take stock of the “distortions” highlighted by studying the data of the last two flow decrees, launched by the Meloni government in December 2022 and September 2023. From what transpires the prime minister and Mantovano have presented a complaint.

For weeks a technical commission of the Ministries of the Interior, Foreign Affairs, Labor and Tourism, coordinated by the Mantovano offices, has been evaluating the numbers of visas issued by embassies, authorizations and work contracts and according to what government sources say that what emerges is that «the flow decrees are a surreptitious form of illegal entry of thousands and thousands of migrants. A fact for everyone. In Campania, out of 100 people who enter with a regular visa thanks to Bossi-Fini, those hired with a regular contract would be only 2.8%. The remaining 97.2% of workers, especially seasonal ones, fall off the radar and “nothing is known about them anymore”. Giorgia Meloni’s deduction is that “the system has failed” and it is urgent to take action, also because organized crime is taking advantage of the flaws in the system to make money, a lot of money. Suffice it to say that each immigrant would be forced to pay something like 13 or 14 thousand euros to be called to work in Italy.

The solution is still to be found, therefore the suspicion is legitimate that Giorgia Meloni decided to announce the turning point also for electoral reasons. The FdI leader will convey the message that the “sensational distortions” of the system relate to the last decade, in which mainly centre-left parties governed.
