CATANZARO Promoting the culture of inclusion and combating all forms of hatred and discrimination: this was the meaning of the “Victims of Hate” initiative organized in Catanzaro by the Police Headquarters and the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri with the Observatory for security against discriminatory acts (OSCAD). Experts and consultants on the subject discussed the topic of discriminatory phenomena, prevention and actions to combat the resulting crimes. Present was the Undersecretary of the Interior, Wanda Ferro, who spoke of an “important” initiative to implement what the Observatory does with respect to all forms of intolerance and to assist the police forces in terms of training on these great challenges of the our time. There is obviously also the need for a cultural battle on these issues.” In turn, the deputy police chief Vittorio Ricci highlighted how this initiative «is aimed above all at younger people: it is a work to promote the culture of legality and values against all discrimination, from gender to that towards the world of disability. We intend to give important signals to young people so that they can, through today’s stories, build a wealth of knowledge and experiences useful for their lives. in this period we have a 1000% increase in incidents of anti-Semitism which are linked to the well-known events in the Middle East and which – Rizzi claimed – have also seen a reaction from the police forces who have had to increase the levels of attention and vigilance: here too there is a cultural problem, the problem of respect for multi-ethnicity and the Observatory deals with this too.” The Observatory for security against discriminatory acts (Oscad) was established in 2010, on the intuition of the prefect Manganelli, as a joint instrument to optimize the action of the State Police and the Carabinieri, to strengthen the activities of prevention and contrast and to establish a closer and more collaborative relationship with all the law enforcement agencies of the national territory, each equipped with a territorial contact person.
