The Calabrian driver of the Prima Ghinzani Motorsport team had the pace to fight at the top, but was really unlucky in qualifying, in which at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup from the Porsche Centers in Milan he was unable to fight for pole position due to a technical boredom which in the middle of the session forced him definitively into the pits in the decisive minutes, when he would have used new tyres.
A truly unusual “retirement” in official practice which then weighed heavily on the two races. Forced to start from the middle of the field in race 1 and from the back of the grid in race 2, the driver from Castrovillari climbed up to eighth place in the race held on Saturday, while on Sunday he risked everything to try to get into at least one ‘further top-10, but without succeeding. Despite himself and despite the 40 overtakings carried out on the Santerno circuit, Iaquinta’s difficult start to the season continues, even if at the Mugello Circuit, the next stage of the Porsche Italia single-brand championship on 13.14 July, he will not miss the opportunity to take a well-deserved ( at least for the credit earned with Lady Luck) and a more fundamental revenge than ever.
Simon Iaquinta: “I don’t want to cling to bad luck, but certainly so far episodes and circumstances have always been adverse for us at this start of the season. In Imola it was really a shame for the missed opportunity because we were very fast. On a grid with 33 cars, however, getting back to the front is a titanic undertaking. We must not lose heart, but continue to work as best we can all together. I’m sure we’ll do it again at Mugello, this 2024 will have to turn around and we’ll have to be ready and focused.”.
