A suspicious sachet, perhaps with cocaine inside, the request for a card – usually used to create “tracks” of white powder -, then the argument, the assault and the fatal stab wound. Details useful for understanding the causes of the killing of Fabio Piga and what happened before his death are contained in the interrogations carried out at the police station. Piga was in the club because his girlfriend, who worked as a cashier, was also there. More than one witness heard, including Donegal manager Fabrizio Lai, explained that Fabio Piga was often there to “lend a hand”, and it is implied that we are talking about safety, although there was already a paid person who monitored the entrances to the restaurant in via Caprera in Cagliari. Yari Fa would have asked for a card from a friend with whom he had arrived in Donegal: in response, having sensed something shady, he had replied telling him not to dare make certain requests. It was a sachet, in the 19-year-old’s hands, that led Fabio’s girlfriend to ask him to check the bathrooms.
After a few minutes, Piga was on the ground, wounded in the chest, at the height of a struggle with Fa. “Help Fabio”, someone present shouted, while other men immobilized the attacker, who in the meantime had become a murderer. The medical teams of two 118 ambulances could not help but confirm Piga’s death.
