ARQUÀ POLESINE (Rovigo) – The “Vittorino Vicentini” Award, established as part of the activity of the “Vittorino Vicentini” Study Center, was awarded to Carlo Piombo. Multifaceted soul, acute politician, fine writer.

Carlo Piombo was born in Pontecchio Polesine in 1943. After the great flood of the Po, he moved to Rovigo where he still lives. He worked for almost half a century in the field of land reclamation and irrigation, concluding his work as general director of the Polesine Adige Canalbianco Consortium.

Was President of Ulss 30 for almost seven years, leading the activation and strengthening of the new provincial hospital since 1982. The Award was presented by David and Chiara Vicentini in the headquarters of “Vittorino Vicentini” Ethnographic Studies Center in the presence of numerous authorities including the Mayor of Arquà Polesine Chiara Turolla, the Commander of the Carabinieri Station of Arquà Polesine Chief Marshal Mario Schisano, the President of the “F. Venezze” of Rovigo prof. Maria Grazia Faganello”. Regional Councilor Simona Bisaglia complimented the awardee “for his constant demonstration of love towards our territory”. The President of the Region Dr. Luca Zaia in his greeting message expressed himself in these terms: “my congratulations to Carlo Piombo who will be awarded this prestigious and famous recognition, capable of paying homage to the heritage, history and identity of the entire Polesine. Polesine which is appropriately valorised, in all its many nuances and suggestions, by the precious work of the Vittorino Vicentini Ethnographic Studies Centre, a true treasure chest that manages to revive all the beauty of our tradition”.

Present on behalf of the “Polesani Lombardi” were Cav. Ugh. Luigi Barion (awarded the Prize in 2023) e Tina Bertizzolo De Stefani.

After the presentation of the award, in the presence of a large audience, Carlo Piombo held with profound competence an engaging and touching Lectio Magistralis entitled Polesine, a land to loveaccompanied by the notes of the accordion of Maestro Bruno Paganelli who entertained those present with songs of popular inspiration.

In the awards room, a collection of photographic images taken by Vittorino Vicentini was exhibited, testimony to the metamorphoses of the Middle Polesine in the 50s, 60s and 70s, taken from the work Italian Mesopotamia.
