MONTEFALCO (Perugia) – «They were wonderful days of celebration. An event entirely dedicated to us, to Umbria. A success for both horses and ponies with many riders and riders who, coming from every corner of the region, tried their hand at all disciplines. A great event dedicated to friendship, sport and a sense of belonging to the region. This is an aspect that is deeply felt by all athletes. The equestrian movement in Umbria is constantly growing, even in games, with numerous children and very young people approaching the sport for the first time”, commented Mirella Bianconi, president of Fise (Italian Equestrian Sports Federation) Umbria, at the end of the Championships regional Umbria 2024 which ended on Sunday 2 June after four days of competitions at the Le Lame Horses Sporting Club equestrian center in Montefalco.
Participating in the Umbrian championships were 310 pairs for show jumping, riders and riders of all ages, and 70 children for the play and pony sector. The tournament was open to senior and junior categories and numerous types of competition were planned including, the final event, the Club Championship: each club participated with a team made up of five members. The team from the Lfb stable from Nocera Umbra stood out, obtaining first position in the rankings, followed by the Valvasone 1 team from Corciano and the Equitazione Calledro team from Narni. On an individual level, however, in the main category, the second degree absolute championship, Gianluca Quondam climbed to the top step of the podium. Immediately behind, in second place, Luca Brunori and in third Beniamino Capurso.
«For the regional federation this is the most important event of the year – explained Nicola Zampolini, show director of the Le Lame equestrian center – since all the Umbrian riders and riders meet here. It is therefore a moment of conviviality and discussion. It is the entire regional equestrian movement that meets here in Montefalco, with the possibility of planning the future, as well as electing the regional champions who will keep the title until next year. An excellent public presence with many children who had the opportunity to try their hand at many competitions related to the world of ponies, thus playing on the back of these fantastic animals. There are so many children. It’s particularly nice to see their races and their desire to win.”
During the equestrian event there was no shortage of moments of conviviality and light-heartedness, including a large social dinner with all the participants.
