Arbereshe spring starts again from Spezzano Albanese

After decades of dead silence, far too many, the flower of the Italians of Albania blooms again with vigor and confident hope

Press release

Arbereshe spring is reborn from Spezzano Albanese, a charming community located on the Sybarite hills, which in the last twenty years has become a sad dormitory, for the pleasure of a few and the displeasure of too many.

A town known throughout Calabria for its joviality and joy, for its identity and welcoming culture.

Spezzano Albanese, a town with a logistically strategic geographical position envied by all, located in the center of the province of Cosenza, very convenient for reaching the Ionian coast, like the Tyrrhenian coast and Cosenza the capital city, a stone’s throw from the motorway entrance.

A town rich in history and archeology with the Mordillo plateau abandoned to itself, the largest Calabrian archaeological park by extension.

A country rich in natural springs with a hydropinic thermal water unique in Europe, closed for years in total degradation, to the sadness of the citizens and of all those Calabrians who have cured illnesses for decades, a water with an extraordinary richness of its healing properties for the liver and intestines, digestive system and metabolism.

A town on which lies an immense agricultural plain that connects the Sibari plain to the Crati Valley, with a port abandoned for decades and devoid of planning for urban development and craftsmanship.

If it is true that we live in an era of strong changes, if it is true that the old way of doing politics and the parties have failed, it is equally true that the need for a radical change in the ruling class becomes indispensable for our country.

From being the fifth world power to becoming the laughing stock of the whole of Europe, Italy is called to reclaim its identity, through a strong sense of responsibility, a reminder of the essence of the community, with the courage to change.

And so it is equally true that history teaches us how the Arbereshe communities integrated very well in Calabria, as in all of Southern Italy for several centuries, have always participated in the struggles for rights and have always contributed to the fate of our country.

How can we forget the historical period of the nineteenth century, where valiant men, intellectual revolutionaries, gave their lives for the unity of Italy, many were the Arbereshe Garibaldini, defined as Heroes, on the front line against the King’s army. But this, alas, is another story, probably one that needs to be rewritten.

And then it’s good yes. We are rediscovering the Arbereshe spring and experiencing it in Spezzano Albanese in recent weeks during the municipal elections, a Stalinist atmosphere of the old family-breaking politics, a mayor who more than the first citizen resembles an army general but without stars .

A mayor who has sat on the city council for thirty years and who today, ten years later, is close to his old age pension, what does he do? He runs for mayor again, once again waving the promised lands.

It would have been nice if we had seen a current councilor or councilor on his list, or perhaps a new face from civil society, perhaps even a woman, but no. A bit like the Marquis del Grillo, I know and you are not a ………..

I don’t mind any candidate from list no. 2, respectable people, perhaps too much for not having insisted the team leader to change his mind to win the elections instead of losing them as expected and as we hope.

The candidate for mayor probably has different objectives, or perhaps he didn’t expect the last-minute tsunami.

That tsunami came from afar, but with firm roots in the country, anchored by a spirit of rebirth, pride, awareness and responsibility, of those who had today and will have tomorrow the Courage to Change, list no. 1 with Cucci mayor.

Spizan moti ndroi, (in Spezzano times have changed), a team of freelancers and entrepreneurs who are demonstrating with firmness and humility, all the professionalism and all the maturity necessary to administer a municipality where there is administrative closure and dead silence for too long now.

I hope with all my heart that harmony and cheerfulness among the people will return to Spezzano, from a country of toys we have become a country of fakes.

I conclude by wishing all the candidates on both lists well, to lower their tone, without anger, to talk about programs and the future, with the hope above all of unity and compactness, so that Spezzano returns to being politically that of electoral plebiscites of the past, and to be present again on the political scene of the province and the region.

That Spezzano of the 3 thousand votes, that of Giovanni Rinaldi and Vittorio Vattimo, that of the Pugliese brothers and the Tursi, up to the Spezzano of Gennaro Cassiani, a Spezzano arberesh name that still resonates with honor and pride among the rooms of the Roman palaces, of the politics that was.
