“A shocking scenario, blood all over the square”

The telephones at the Carabinieri operations center in Cantù started ringing insistently on the night of June 2nd. These were the citizens’ reports of the brawl that was taking place in Piazza Garibaldi less than 300 meters from the barracks. In a few moments all the patrols on duty arrived on site together with the ambulances. The scenario that the soldiers found themselves faced with was shocking: numerous young people were running away in all directions, in a state of panic and fear. Traces of blood were scattered throughout the square. First the injured were helped and order was restored. Immediately afterwards, the investigations of the Nor of the Cantù company began, under the leadership of Major Christian Tapparo. The investigations were immediately difficult due to the number of people present in the square (over 60) and the chaos generated by that explosion of violence. The carabinieri, with the help of the local police, began the painstaking collection of video evidence, testimonies and reports from the victims. Throughout the day of June 2, the investigations continued unabated, with searches, seizures of material and scientific findings. The numerous interventions saw around thirty carabinieri and around ten agents from the Cantù Local Police employed in the various phases. Late yesterday afternoon, three minors of foreign origins (from Morocco) were arrested, reported for aggravated complicity in attempted murder and brawl, and a minor was also reported for theft by tearing a gold chain.

The 18-year-old was also arrested: he turned himself in

Also in the late afternoon, after having noticed the deployment of forces deployed, and the circle that tightened around him, the most important wanted man was also established: an 18-year-old of foreign origins (also Moroccan) probable material author of the stabbing, who admitted his responsibility. Now he is accused together with the other three minors of attempted aggravated murder in conspiracy and affray.

All the young people reported to the judiciary, despite their young age, are well-known faces in the city news and appear to belong to baby gangs.
The violence on the night of June 2 left two very seriously injured people still hospitalized and a third who, despite his injuries, decided to leave the hospital and return home.
The three minors were taken to the juvenile prison in Milan and the adult to Bassone. Investigative investigations continue in order to establish further responsibilities.
