The Citizens’ Committee for the New State Road 106 in Corigliano-Rossano has recently made a request for a detailed technical and economic feasibility study regarding the route of megalot 8, which involves the Corigliano-Rossano-Sibari section. This appeal fits into the context of the debate on the construction of the new state road, seen as fundamental for the development of the area, but a source of concern among residents.

Salvatore Acri, representative of the committee, highlighted the need to compare the costs and impacts of the current route proposed by Anas, which crosses the inhabited centers of Corigliano and Rossano, with those of the original route approved twenty years ago by the municipal councils of the previous municipalities of Corigliano and Rossano. «This territory has the right to know what the difference is between the estimated costs of the two routes» declared Acri, adding that «politics must listen to the citizens, because there is still time to accept our proposal».

The committee urges the relevant authorities to seriously consider this request, stating that the current project cannot be passively accepted without a full understanding of its implications. According to committee members, a comparative study is essential to ensure informed decisions that respect the needs of the community. The inhabitants of Corigliano-Rossano are not opposed to infrastructural development, but ask for transparency and participation in the decision-making process. «This territory cannot accept a major project that crosses inhabited centers without first having a clear and complete knowledge of the issues at stake» concludes Acri. The debate over the new SS 106 continues, with citizens hoping that their voices will be heard and that their concerns will be considered for the good of the region’s future.
