NurSind: the University of Sassari does not pay contract teachers of the health professions

Sassari, 3 June 2024 – Fausta Pileri, Territorial Secretary of NurSind Sassari and member of the NurSind National Directorate, today expressed deep concerns regarding the healthcare situation in the province of Sassari. In a statement released this morning, Pileri defined healthcare professionals and patients as “the stepchildren of healthcare”, highlighting serious critical issues and unfair treatment by institutions.

“Patients on stretchers present as always, very long waiting lists present as always. However, the payments of emergency allowances are absent, as are the economic brackets, both in the ASL and in the Aou of Sassari“, said Pileriunderlining the difficulties faced by healthcare professionals and patients in the province of Sassari.

Pileri reported one “chronic shortage” of healthcare personnel, also attributing responsibility to the managers of healthcare companies. “Company managers wonder or pretend to wonder why there is a shortage of nurses, health workers and other healthcare professionals. A chronic shortage that has never been remedied”, she declared.

The situation at the University of Sassari, again in the healthcare sector, is no better. “The University of Sassari, in fact – adds Pileri – almost all contract teachers of degree courses in the health professions do not pay, something that the University of Cagliari, for example, does regularly”.

Finally, Pileri underlined a “widespread malpractice in Sassari’s healthcare”, highlighting the lack of improvements in recent years and a discrepancy between the decisions of politicians and administrators at regional and local level and the real needs of patients and healthcare professionals. “Citizens must remember this treatment every time they have the opportunity to go and vote” concluded Pileri.

Despite the serious situation the Sassari healthcare system finds itself inNursind undertakes to continue to closely monitor the situation and to act to ensure better working and welfare conditions for professionals and patients in the province of Sassari.
