While the petition to dismantle the Golf Club Milano di Monza circulates on the Change.org platform with 513 signatures collected in the name of reforestation, Alessandro Corbetta, regional councilor of the League thunders all his dissent. In a press release issued today, June 3, the Northern League member declares “Thinking of canceling the historic golf course in the Monza Park is pure madness. This field is aexcellencea unique place where the best world golf champions have played and which has hosted six Italian Opens and various international and national championships”.

ACCORDING TO CORBETTA, GOLF MUST BE VALUED

According to the regional councilor Corbetta regarding Golf in Monza Park, non-renewal of the concession would penalize what it considers to be a sporting and cultural heritage and closing it would mean depriving Brianza of a symbol of excellence. And he adds: “We must work to enhance our heritage even more, not to dismantle it, starting from the assumption that the Monza Park is special and unique precisely because it hosts everything within it, from the racetrack to schools and farms, up to golf. The Milan Golf Club remains where it is, continuing to be a jewel that further embellishes one of the most beautiful parks in all of Europe.”

The petition against the renewal of the concession was launched online at Giorgio Majoli of the Coordination with mainly environmentalist, but also social reasons, considering that the plant area is off-limits to the public and in fact reserved for a “privileged few”. In less than a week the signatures were passed from around 330 to over 500 and now we’re aiming for a thousand. Objective: to restore the forest in place of the golf course and reopen the area to everyone’s access.
