On the ground floor of the Brindisi Court, the “place of solidarity” was inaugurated today (3 June 2024). The National Association of Magistrates, Subsection of Brindisi, has promoted, in fact, an initiative expressing solidarity in favor of others in their expression of poverty, weakness and marginalization.
The city of Brindisi has more than 200 people in conditions of absolute poverty, that is, people who are unable to independently provide themselves with even just one meal a day. These are people of different nationalities and origins but also, to a large extent, Italian citizens, some of whom have been severely defeated by the COVID 19 pandemic.
The sixteen parishes of the city of Brindisi take turns providing one meal a day to these people, who, also for this purpose, have come together in the association «Parrocchie solidali Brindisi», a third sector body, with the main aim of supporting the daily canteen for the poor in collaboration with the diocesan Caritas of Brindisi and Ostuni. Caritas supports the soup kitchen by taking on, among other things, the costs of the daily supply of bread and the purchase of so-called furnishings, i.e. plates, glasses, napkins, cutlery and, above all, plastic trays. aluminum in which food is provided daily to over 200 people in conditions of absolute poverty.
The initiative provides that anyone who wishes, including magistrates, lawyers, administrative staff and members of the Police Force, can also purchase a limited quantity of furnishings and deposit it in a dedicated area, called “place of solidarity”, located on the ground floor of the Court Toasts. The amount collected will be given to the Caritas bursar on a weekly basis.
The inauguration, which took place in a sober manner, took place in the presence of His Excellency the Archbishop of Brindisi-Ostuni Monsignor GGiovanni Intiniof the President of the Court Dr. Vincenzo Scardia and the Public Prosecutor Dr. Antonio De Donno as well as representatives of the Don Solidarity Parish Association Adriano MigliettaDon Massimo Mengasi and Don Pierino Manzo as well as, finally, the President and the Secretary of the ANM subsection of Brindisi, respectively Dr. Giuseppe De Nozza and Dr. Antonio Natali.
