It is the artist’s signature that gives paternity and renewed value to a work. The one of a tourist on the walls of a Roman domus in the archaeological park of Herculaneum, however, it is only ainsult to memory.
It happened last evening when, first the security staff and then the police, were alerted to yet another insult to history. A 27 year old Dutchon holiday in Campania, decided to leave a mark of his passage, marking the ancient stuccos with a marker of a home torn from the ashes of Vesuvius.
A signature, with a black marker, one of those indelible ones. The man was immediately identified and reported for damage and defacement of artistic works.
