INTERVENTION/ Yes to peace, no to war and rearmament. On the occasion of the G7, which should be a moment of international meeting and dialogue, it is essential to promote a message of peace and cooperation. Brindisi has always been a city of peace and hospitality, and the images depicting the soldiers of the San Marco Regiment with weapons drawn, placed on the former Saca warehouses overlooking Via Provinciale San Vito, are not in line with these values. Our soldiers are a source of pride for their commitment to peacekeeping missions and numerous humanitarian interventions. It would have been more appropriate and representative of our identity to depict them during a peace mission, highlighting their role as peacemakers and support for populations in difficulty. Showing images of war and armaments in such a delicate moment is not only inappropriate, but also in contrast with the image that Brindisi wants and must give to the world. The current blow-up, while respecting the importance of the work carried out by our military, is of dubious taste and does not reflect the peaceful and welcoming soul of our city. Brindisi deserves an image that promotes peace and unity, in harmony with the values that distinguish us. An image of soldiers engaged in humanitarian support operations would not only have been more appropriate, but would also have strengthened the message of hope and solidarity that we want to convey to world leaders and citizens around the world. Therefore, we suggest reviewing this choice. Representing our military in humanitarian and peace actions would be a strong and clear signal of our commitment to a conflict-free future, reaffirming Brindisi’s role as a port of peace and welcome.
