Brother and sister arrested for attempted extortion and drug dealing

On the morning of May 31, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Ferrara carried out a precautionary custody measure against two people, brother and sister, respectively placed in prison and under house arrest.

The charges leveled against the brothers include attempted aggravated extortion and drug dealing.

At the basis of the extortion request, dating back to the summer of 2023, a debt contracted by a forty-nine year old – it seems – for a batch of narcotics, a couple of blocks of hashish, “lost” in the summer of 2022, for which he still owed pay the two brothers the sum of fifteen hundred euros.

Threats and attacks that followed one another over time and on one occasion were even directed at the then partner of the forty-nine year old.

A long and complex investigation, which saw the investigators committed to reconstructing the dynamics of the drug dealing on the outskirts of the Estense capital and to collecting fundamental testimonies for the indictment of the two suspects, he was forty-four years old and she was thirty-four years old, despite the reluctance of some witnesses, who were reluctant to speaking out of fear of retaliation, given the climate of intimidation that had been created in the area.

During the investigation, two other extortion cases were also reconstructed, using the so-called “return horse” technique. In both cases the bicycle had been stolen from the two victims, obviously parked and padlocked, and the forty-four year old had offered to “mediate” the return in exchange for compensation.

Fully agreeing with the investigative findings collected by the Carabinieri coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ferrara, the judge for preliminary investigations of the Este Court issued the restrictive order against the two, deeming the precautionary needs to exist.
