The Municipality of Udine has decided to strengthen the security project in the neighborhoods, with a new organization and greater cooperation between the forces in the field. The decision is the result of a joint evaluation between the Mayor of Udine and the municipal council, which led to a significant change in the management of the Local Police.
The delegation to the local police passes to the councilor for participatory security
One of the most significant innovations concerns the delegation to the Local Policewho passed from the current Deputy Mayor toParticipatory Security Councilor. This choice aims to ensure more effective management of participation projects in neighborhoods, particularly with regards to safety. The objective is to make the Local Police offices a central point of reference for reports and problems raised by neighborhood representatives.
New neighborhood police
With the start of these new projects, they have also been foreseen new hires at the Via Girardini Command, where several officers will take on the role of neighborhood watchmen. These policemen will be the direct connection between citizens and the policeincreasing the level of safety through a constant and widespread presence in the area.
Meetings and dialogue with residents
In recent months, the Administration has organized numerous meetings in the neighborhoods to present the project and the new tools available, establishing a fruitful dialogue with citizens, associations and the urban fabric of the city. This participatory approach has led to strong interest from the community, with over 60 applications received at municipal offices from citizens wishing to voluntarily participate in the project.
Selection and training of volunteers
The first operational phase of the project involves the selection and training of volunteers, followed by the identification of neighborhood contacts. These representatives will have the task of collaborating closely with the Local Police, reporting any critical issues and proposing concrete solutions to improve safety in their neighbourhood.
Greater safety and active participation
The main objective of these interventions is increase the level of safety in neighborhoods, through active and conscious participation of citizens. The presence of neighborhood police and the creation of a network of local representatives will make it possible to respond promptly and effectively to community needsimproving the quality of urban life
