The maritime economy in Italy is worth 59 billion

The numbers are rising: the blue economy provides employment for 914 thousand people

Venice – “52.4 billion euros is the value of the blue economy in Italy in 2021, for a weight equal to 3.3% of the added value produced by the entire national economy. Already from the first data of the preview of this year’s report estimates for 2022 grow to around 59 billion demonstrating great vitality, with growth that is far more pronounced than the rest of the economy”. This is what emerges from the previews of the data contained in the XII National Report on the Economy of the Sea created by the National Observatory on the Economy of the Sea – OssserMare with the Study Center of the Guglielmo Tagliacarne Chambers of Commerce. The 228 thousand companies in the maritime cluster, equal to 3.8% of the Italian entrepreneurial fabric, employ 914 thousand people, which represent 3.6% of the country’s total employment.

“These are important numbers that demonstrate that the Italian maritime economy has a dimension that deserves due attention because we are a maritime nation: the 34% of the populationequal to 20 million inhabitants, lives in coastal areas and in Europe we are second only to Greece for kilometers of coastline. We must continue to follow the route traced to affirm the centrality of our country in the sea system”, he explained Giovanni Acamporapresident of Assonautica Italiana.
