POTENZA IS PREPARING TO EXPERIENCE THE COURSE OF THE LAST ELECTION WEEK – Talenti Lucani

We close the windows so as not to let in the noise of an electoral campaign which is animated by almost five hundred candidates, of different orientations, but also of different behaviour. There are those who make their brave phone calls on tiptoe, explaining the reasons for their protagonism, there are those who spend money on posters that no one sees, such is the rush to superimpose one image on top of the other, there are there are those who abuse social media by making you find a holy card under every comment, there are those who argue about stupid things, just as there are those who, meeting after meeting, in homes or neighborhoods, carry forward a program for the city built in advance of the elections. The political meaning of this competition, if there is a meaning, can be summarized in this way: A) the center-right does not talk about the city, it moves in the city as a master who does not intend to answer for what has been done, but who is fully convinced of having to inherit the leadership based on the penetrative strength of his troops, already structured in themselves and now swollen by new grafts, physiologically quickly re-adapted to the main trunk of the winners; B) the centre-left, dressed in a civic spirit that is not at all third compared to the parties that traditionally compose it, flaunts to the wind the contradictions of a right that has brought the city to a minimum, lowering the quality of life, reducing services, raising taxes , and raking in money with a stratagem constructed with the characteristics of a real ambush on motorists. He adds to these arguments the consideration that the chosen mayoral candidate is not objectively better than the one who stepped aside, because even in the Region the signs of managerial incompetence are there and are evident: Furthermore, the passage of the former health councilor as mayoral candidate seems to all intents and purposes to be a sort of reward for his 4000 votes won for the region and, moreover, insufficient results to occupy a seat on Viale Verrastro. On the other hand, in addition to the five lists that support the outgoing councilor, Vincenzo Telesca, there are three that converge on a candidate, Pierluigi Smaldone, who legitimately becomes the bearer of a civic movement created in a city that, in these times, it does not feel represented by traditional parties, of whatever color they are, and that it expects the return of a responsible and high-profile municipal government. Of the other two lists, one (Mayor candidate Maria Grazia Marino) was born from the attempt to bring to active political levels a desire for legality that derives from the deterioration of civil and democratic coexistence eroded by non-respect for citizens’ rights, by the overriding of rules, from the arrogance and abuse exercised also using institutions. The other (mayoral candidate Francesco Giuzio) is a left-wing list, partly heir to that adventure of five years ago which led the mayoral candidate Tramutoli to come close to success in the run-off with Guarente. So on one side a team of seven lists, with Fanelli as candidate, on the other a more jagged front made up of five lists on a candidate for mayor (Telesca), three lists on the civic candidate Smaldone, plus two lists with candidates for Mayor respectively Marino and Giuzio. Upon objective examination, the right, with seven strong lists, may not reach 50 + 1 percent to promote its candidate for mayor in the first round, but it may be able to win a majority in the city council. In which case, the second round could lead to a repetition of the so-called lame duck experience with De Luca. The centre-left is instead counting on the ability of all the alternative lists to the right to contain its onslaught and to reach the second round without there being a pre-established majority in the city council, with the consequent possibility of earning the majority bonus, which would mark a clear reversal of direction compared to the picture that emerged from the regional elections. The meaning of this last week’s effort is in closing the match in the first round or in keeping it open for a two-way challenge with characteristics more linked to the appeal of the respective duelists.
