Freedom, democracy, spirit of solidarity, sense of national unity and shared responsibility are the values that animate the celebration in Salerno, as throughout Italy, for the 78th anniversary of the birth of the Republic.
At a time when, in other areas of the world, near and far, wars, terrorism, fanaticism, climate change and economic problems are putting the lives of thousands of people at risk, it is important to reiterate the need to protect rights of individuals, not to forget history, the past, but rather to treasure it to look to the future with confidence and hope.
THE CEREMONY IN PIAZZA AMENDOLA WITH THE STUDENTS
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the “Republic Day”, the traditional ceremony organized by the Prefect of Salerno, Francesco Esposito, took place this morning. The civil, military and religious authorities of the province, gathered in Piazza Giovanni Amendola in Salerno, witnessed the solemn raising of the flag to the tune of the Italian anthem, performed by the wind orchestra of the “Teresa Confalonieri” Institute of Higher Education in Campagna, directed by maestro Luciano Marchetta, who accompanied the entire solemn ceremony with music dedicated to the Republic.
The protagonists of the “Republic Day” ceremony were the students of the schools of the City of Salerno who participated in the project promoted by the Prefecture of Salerno, in collaboration with the Provincial School Office, “Let’s live the Constitution” which will continue next year school, with other institutes in the province.
The students of the “Sabatini Menna” artistic high school in Salerno, accompanied by the principal Renata Florimonte, staged a flash mob on the Italian tricolour; the students of the “Roberto Virtuoso” State Hotel Professional Institute of Salerno, accompanied by the principal Ornella Pellegrino, interpreted our founding fathers, reviving the debate carried out within the work of the Constituent Assembly on articles 1, 3 and 9; the students of the “Francesco De Sanctis” state classical and scientific high school in Salerno, accompanied by the principal Cinzia Lucia Guida, exhibited and illustrated the panels, created by the students, which depict some articles of our Constitution.
Prefect Francesco Esposito, on the sidelines of the meeting, underlined how: “I am proud to carry out the functions of Prefect of our Republic in this generous land of Salerno. The Constitution must become widespread culture; to know in order to arouse the passion necessary to achieve the objectives indicated by our founding fathers and guarantee us a better future”.
As President Mattarella said “The Prefects are called in the provincial territories to be the pivot of unity and social cohesion every day, embodying the mission of “operators of the Constitution”, working for the common good.” The Prefect continued by recalling that each of us must be “operators of the Constitution” because the protection, promotion and realization of constitutional values depends on our choices, on our daily behaviors
After the ceremony in Piazza Amendola, in which the students of the schools of the city of Salerno were involved who participated in the “Let’s live the Constitution” project, promoted by the Prefecture, the celebrations continued at the “Teatro Verdi” of Salerno, where the Prefect Esposito delivered the honors “to the merit of the Italian Republic”, granted by the President of the Republic Mattarella to the citizens of the province.
