solidarity and smiles in favor of fragile children

BISCEGLIE – Do concrete solidarity and at the same time promote the territory through an excellent product. A task that is anything but simple, which the members of the Bisceglie historical pastry shops association, coordinated by the tireless director Sergio Salerno, have undertaken since its foundation.

The sigh, God forbid, is always at the center of the discussion, but the determination with which each of the taste professionals engages in social issues makes the activity of the pastry chefs’ collective even more effective. «A commendable job, in which we firmly believe» Salerno defined it. «Taking into account the availability of individuals is rather complicated but the beneficial purposes of the initiatives undertaken go beyond any problem».

This is the case of the visit to the young patients of the pediatric oncology department of the Bari Polyclinic: a pleasant custom started in 2023 with the aim of bringing a pinch of lightheartedness to patients and their families. The typical traditional dessert, a Slow Food Presidium since 2014, was accompanied along the route between the rooms by another delicacy, the cherry, due to the partnership with the Consortium for the valorization of Bisceglie red gold.

Confirmed, also for this year, is the fundraising for the Apleti non-profit organization, the Apulian association for the fight against childhood blood disorders and cancers: «We feel the social duty to offer our support to an organization that does its utmost to provide for unguaranteed needs from the health system” underlined Salerno.

Another significant day was spent with the guests of the “San Giovanni di Dio” house for life in Giovinazzo, followed by the staff of the Metropolis Consortium, in the spaces of the “Cresci senza gluten” company: the pastry chefs guided them step by step the boys, suffering from psycho-motor difficulties, to the creation of sighs as well as taralli and butter biscuits. An experience with a notable impact for everyone: «We joined the «Mani in pasta» project coordinated by Graziana Di Leo and thanks to Marco Sciascia and Francesco Monopoli, who did not hesitate to open the doors of their laboratory to us, we managed to give moments of joy for those who unfortunately live a difficult life” explained Salerno.

Work is underway for the 2024 edition of «La notte dei sospiri»: the director of the historic Bisceglie pastry shops association revealed, in a preview for the Gazzetta, the date of the event: «It will take place on Saturday 3 August and will be a great popular festival with lots of new features.”
