Ferrara, 2 June 2024 – You can feel the atmosphere of great occasions. The electoral appointment for the renewal of the City Council and Council, a Ferrara, is generating great expectation. It used to be called electoral fever: the mercury is rising for all sides that support the four aspiring first citizens. The outgoing mayor, Alan Fabbripresents itself with a civic profile despite having a history that has its roots in the early Northern League.
The Northern League list, which has the deputy mayor as its leader, runs in his support Nicola LodiBrothers of Italy who fielded the outgoing Environment Councilor Alessandro BalboniForza Italia-Noi Moderati led by the budget councilor, Matteo Fornasini, Ferrara al Centro with his colleague from the Council, Andrea Maggi, the mayor’s civic and the list of the Central Union.
On the left, there are two different proposals: Fabio Anselmo And Anna Zonari.
The first, a long-time lawyer who gained notoriety in particular with the Cucchi and Aldrovandi cases, is supported by a broad coalition that includes the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement, Action with the PRI, his civic list, the ‘I Civici’ and from the ‘United Left for Anselmo’ list.
Zonari is instead an expression of a civic experiment that starts “from the bottom”, as the candidate often likes to point out. Her formation takes the name of La Comune and brings together a fairly transversal world close to the themes of environmentalism and the left linked to volunteering and movement. Together with her, there are also socialists and representatives of + Europa.
Lastly, there is the true ‘outsider’ of the electoral campaign who places himself “firmly in the centre” with the Ferrara Futura list: Daniele Botti. A young entrepreneur, very attached to family issues, the 29-year-old has received the support of Italia Viva.
In 2019, he supported Fabbri and was appointed vice president of Acer only to later leave in controversy with the administration.
There election campaign is coming to an end and competitors are fighting to conquer the most visible spaces in the city for the final rallies.
The climate is very tense from the beginning and, by now, the battles between Fabbri and Anselmo are proverbial. Complaints, reports to the prosecutor’s office and sit-ins punctuated a debate that took on pugnacious tones.
Fabbri has never accepted public confrontations with Anselmo, despite the lawyer having requested it several times, but he invited Zonari to a debate.
