On Friday 7 June at 10 am, in the Sanctuary of San Paolo alla Rotonda, the students of class III D of the Volta Scientific High School will present the audio guides created as part of the PCTO “Open Churches: art tells”, in collaboration with the Diocesan Museum of Reggio Calabria. Assisted by the company tutor, Dr. Lucia Lojacono, director of the Museum, and the scholastic tutor, Prof. Maria Giovanna Monaca, the students studied the art and history of the church, a true temple of contemporary sacred art in Reggio. They wrote the texts of the works of art, created the photographic survey and published the audio guides on the IZITravel digital platform.

The experience was enriched by the presence of the parish priest Don Simone Gatto, who guided the children in understanding the complex iconography of the works created by Msgr. Francesco Gangemi. The teachers Maria Pustorino (English), Domenica Pansera (Drawing and Art History) and Simona Ambusto (class coordinator) also collaborated in the creation of the PCTO.

Speakers at the presentation will be Don Domenico Rodà, deputy director of the Cultural Heritage and Religious Buildings Office, and Dr. Maria Rosa Monterosso, headmaster of the Volta Scientific High School.

The event is part of the program created by the Parish of San Paolo Apostolo on the occasion of “The long night of the churches”, which will be celebrated throughout Italy in places of worship, blending together culture, art and music in a key reflection and spirituality. In the afternoon, at the end of the Holy Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (starting at 7 pm), the Parish will propose at 8 pm “Find me! Meeting with art and music”, animated by the Santa Cecilia Choir, directed by maestro Marco Cuzzilla and accompanied by organist Filippo Francesco Diano. On this occasion, the Cultural Group of the Parish of San Paolo Apostolo will illustrate the extraordinary heritage of sacred art preserved in the church, and the parish priest Don Simone Gatto will propose ideas for meditation inspired by it.

“The long night of the churches”, now in its ninth edition, is a great popular event created with the aim of giving a concrete sign of the presence of the Church in the communities and of being an opportunity to meet with people who are often distant, awakening the interest in cultural and social initiatives in churches that confirm themselves as living spaces. As per tradition, this year too, a theme expressed by a word that sounds like an invitation: “Find me!” will be the underlying theme for the events scheduled throughout Italy.
