Sassari The works in the former primary school of Biancareddu, an agricultural village in the deep Nurra, have had a setback and the premises are not yet available. The most popular polling station in Italy is therefore not demobilising, ready to welcome voters also for the election day of 8 and 9 June. The apartment made available by the local pensioner Maria Ghisu will still allow voting operations, as happened in previous regional elections. A gesture that was widely echoed in the national press, even in Rai. «They came to interview me from Sardinia and the Peninsula, and also Geppi Cucciari – He says Maria Ghisu – Honestly, I was a little disconcerted, but I was pleased about it, because it gave popularity to my beautiful village and to the local association to which I belong. We have also received some unfair criticism on social media, but ours is just a gesture of love for the community of Biancareddu and nothing more. We are already ready to repeat it for June.”
The association of which he is a member Maria Ghisu it’s called Abb, acronym for Associazione borgata Biancareddu ((president Stefania Manunta): 65 members, almost all women. They work hard for their territory in culture, entertainment and decorum. And it will be the same in June. Then we hope that the work on the former school will finish soon.”
The seat house of Maria Ghisu it is already under construction. «The large bedroom will house the ballot boxes and the stations for the scrutineers and list representatives – he says Maria Ghisu –, the policemen will sleep in the smaller one. The kitchen will be the small entrance corridor.” At the beginning, the pensioner, who had been widowed for some time, had thought of making another room in the building where she lives available as a seat, the one where the La Pidrissa restaurant was located, which she managed for many years with her husband. But a commission had deemed him unsuitable for voting. Hence the option of the apartment next to the one where Maria lives. In the last elections, 72 showed up in the famous seat. Less than half of the registered voters. This time, given the concomitance of the European and Municipal elections of Sassari with the very heartfelt elections for the Municipality of Nurra, a much greater turnout is expected. At the last Regionals she won Todde: 10 votes more than Truzzu. But now also in Biancareddu’s makeshift seat, as everywhere else, another game will be played.
