Don Malnati resigns after 50 years in Trieste

TRIESTE – Don Ettore Malnati announces his resignation having reached the age limit (79 years) after having led the parish of Notre Dame de Sion for 50 years. Archbishop Enrico Trevisi accepted the resignation and declared it today, Saturday 1 June, in an official communication to the citizens: “A special word for Monsignor Ettore Malnati who has chosen to return to his country of origin (Bisuschio, province of Varese , ed.) and carry out his new service there. Gratitude to him for all the good done not only in the 50 years in which he led the community of Our Lady of Sion but also in service of the diocese. There will be no shortage of opportunities to show our gratitude to him.”

Who is Don Malnati

Don Malnati, professor of theology at seminaries, schools and also at the Faculty of Theology of Lugano, is counted among the members of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences for his theological and ecumenical activity and is the author of numerous articles and publications. He was also the private secretary of Monsignor Antonio Santin from the early 1970s and in 2021 he received the civic merit of the city of Trieste from the mayor Roberto Dipiazza on the occasion of fifty years of priesthood “for the contribution given to dialogue and mutual knowledge between the different religious confessions, as necessary factors for a peaceful and constructive coexistence in a city like Trieste”. On this occasion the priest also received a letter from Pope Francis. His public commitment and his numerous interventions on current issues are well known, from the Ironworks to the Wartsila issue, up to the Silos and the themes of hospitality.
