New square in San Felice: «Space regained»

CREMONA – “A new starting point to expand the community of San Savino and San Felice”. With the words of the president of the neighborhood committee Assunta Sellitto this afternoon the new square of the San Felice district was inaugurated in the presence of residents, parishioners and the deputy mayor Andrew Virgilof the councilors Luca Zanacchi, Simona Pasquali, Barbara Manfredini, Luca Burgazzi And Rosita Viola.

A ribbon cutting awaited and strongly desired by the citizens, which was preceded by the blessing and prayers of the parish priest Don Gianluca Gaiardi. The councilor for the Zanacchi District took the floor immediately afterwards: “The issue of opening the square had been requested several times by the committee, as part of the redevelopment process that involved San Felice. Today is therefore a beautiful day, because the neighborhood and the residents are once again taking ownership of these spaces”. Virgilio then explained the progressive work that has led, over time, to giving the neighborhood a new face: “The recovery of the square starts from a private intervention, born several years ago, which also involved the redevelopment of the civic center as a public impact , today home to activities and services, including healthcare. Today we are proud of the work done, but above all happy with what citizens will have at their disposal from now on.”

The intervention – for a total amount of approximately 600 thousand euros – also involved the renovation of the flooring, sewerage, street furniture, the irrigation system for the green flowerbeds and the public lighting system. The new square is part of the overall redevelopment of the San Felice district, financed with funds from the 7.5 million suburban tender (from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers). The resources were used for the renovation of the nursery school, roads with underground services, public lighting and new green areas.

All that is missing to complete the project is the gym, but in the next few days the procedures will be started to entrust work to another company to complete the intervention which has mostly already been carried out. Furthermore, the Government, the Lombardy Region, the Municipality of Cremona and Padania Acque carried out hydrogeological safety measures, with the reconstruction of sewage water collection and the construction of a lamination tank for a total of 2.2 million euros. ERP buildings (public residential buildings) have also been the subject of important energy efficiency interventions, for a total amount of several million euros.
