If there aren’t 10 thousand, it’s not much (or rather, very little) missing: a rainbow-coloured river in flood invaded the streets of the historic center of Padua on Saturday 1st June for the annual Pride parade and to claim the rights of LGBTQIA+ people. At the head of the procession, which started and arrived in Piazza De Gasperi, were the rainbow families, who have made headlines in recent months due to the 37 registrations made by the Municipality of Padua (and claimed by the mayor Sergio Giordani) of children linked to two mothers. Behind them five vans with as many DJs blasting music at full volume along the entire journey and lots of it, lots of people very determined to celebrate as to reiterate their ideas. They do it above all with the many signs displayed: the ones linked to what Pope Francis said earlier in the week in a private audience with the bishops are inevitable, but there is also room for support for Palestineae for the memory of Giada Zanola, the latest victim of a tragic plague called “femicides”. Also speaking on the stage in Piazza De Gasperi was Margherita Colonnello, municipal councilor for social issues and gender policies: «Padua is beautiful when it shines, and you are our colors: this world wants to darken them, but we won’t allow it. We will always be alongside families, all families, and our battle continues alongside them. On this day, however, our thoughts also go to Giada Zanola, her family and all the victims of femicide.” (Video Bellavia/Bergamaschi, text Gabriele Fusar Poli)
