Foggia. Motion for the regeneration of the Artisans Village and its connection to the city centre

Foggia, 1 June 2024 – In the next Foggia City Council, a crucial motion for the future of the Artisans Village will be discussed, presented by the Group Leader of CON Foggia, Achille Capozzi, delegate for the management of the Village. The initiative aims at the urban regeneration of this historic area and the improvement of its connection with the city centre.

The Artisans Village, born in the 1970s, has represented a vital area of the city for decades, thanks to its economic and social dynamism. However, in recent years, it has suffered a progressive decline with the closure of numerous businesses and an increasing loss of attractiveness. The proposed motion aims to reverse this trend through a series of targeted interventions.

The proposed interventions

  1. Redevelopment of public spaces
    • Repaving of roads: interventions to improve the safety and aesthetics of the neighborhood.
    • Creation of green areas: new spaces for citizens to relax and socialize.
    • Installation of street furniture: benches, lighting and other elements to make common spaces more welcoming.
  2. Recovery of buildings
    • Incentives for the renovation of properties: economic support to encourage the redevelopment of existing structures.
    • Support for commercial activities: aid for the relaunch of the local economic fabric.
    • Development of social housing projects: to promote housing inclusion and combat degradation.
  3. Improved mobility
    • Creation of a pedestrian connection: a railway underpass that directly connects the Artigiani Village to the center of Foggia, facilitating sustainable mobility and accessibility of the neighborhood.
    • Strengthening of public transport: increase in public transport lines and frequencies to improve connections with the rest of the city.
  4. Creation of new functions
    • Spaces for cultural and recreational events: areas dedicated to artistic events, shows and leisure activities.
    • Development of socialization and aggregation activities: to promote social cohesion and community participation.

A modern and integrated neighborhood

The declared objective of the motion is to transform the Artisans Village into a modern, attractive and livable neighbourhood, fully integrated with the city centre. “The Artigiani Village has great development potential”, underlined Achille Capozzi. “With this motion we want to start a process of urban regeneration that transforms it into a modern, attractive and livable neighbourhood, integrated with the city centre. We believe that this is a fundamental intervention for the future of Foggia.”

The motion represents a strategic vision for the relaunch of an area that has seen better times and which now, with these interventions, will be able to regain its importance and centrality in the urban context of Foggia.

The discussion of the motion is expected in the next City Council, where the potential and impact of the proposed interventions will be evaluated. Achille Capozzi, as Group Leader of CON Foggia and delegate to the Artisans Village, expresses confidence in the fact that the Council will be able to recognize the importance of this project for the future of the city.
