Untracked products, fines for two premises in the historic centre

As part of the evening services prepared by the Catania Police Commissioner aimed at controlling public businesses in the streets of the historic centre, affected by the nightlife phenomenon, specific checks were carried out in the area of Piazza Vincenzo Bellini. The agents of the “Central” Public Safety Commissariat and the Scientific Police, in collaboration with personnel from the Veterinary Prevention Department, the Spresal (Workplace Prevention and Safety Service) and the Public Hygiene Department of the ASP of Catania, checked some establishments that supply food and drinks, finding various irregularities in two businesses and contesting administrative violations for 9,700 euros, also proceeding with the seizure of 15 kilos of frozen food products of various kinds, from pinse to fish products.

Expired fire extinguishers and electrical panel without maintenance

Specifically, in one of the public establishments audited, violations regarding safety in the workplace were found, as the fire extinguishers had expired and the electrical panel had never been subjected to maintenance, which is why the owner was fined 3,400 EUR. In the other commercial activity it was found that the emergency exits were locked, the fire extinguisher had expired and the emergency lighting was missing.

The fines

Furthermore, the room used as a kitchen did not have the minimum structural requirements required by law. Among the most obvious violations were the size, the lack of ventilation and even the presence of a bathroom where, near the toilet, a refrigerator containing untraceable frozen foods had been placed. In this case, the owner was fined 6,300 euros and warned not to continue his food preparation business. For violations of safety in the workplace, the administrative procedure for suspending business activity has been initiated.

Untracked fish

In Palermo, the harbor master’s office seized 1,200 kilos of fish stored in some non-compliant cold storage rooms found in a warehouse. Among the seized fish products, approximately 400 kilos of swordfish and 100 kilos of untraceable bluefin tuna were found
