Destination Inside Sardinia

Destination Inside Sardinia, in Orotelli the Gal Barbagia tourist route met the world of the countryside: «Few people know how to do business». On May 28th stop in Fonni: at the school of Instagram.

Destination Inside Sardinia

«If we look at the world of the countryside, in Sardinia we have many producers but there is a shortage of businesses. We must reverse this trend, training is essential to ensure that agriculture and land development go hand in hand.” Here is the bitter truth, told by professor at the University of Cagliari Giuseppe Melis. Campaigns in crisis, campaigns that are becoming depopulated. In Orotelli the Gal Barbagia called together breeders and experts in the sector. On the other hand, there is no lack of potential but a new approach is needed for the hoped-for restart. A leap in quality. Meanwhile, on May 28th at 3.30pm the Destination Inside Sardinia journey will arrive in Fonni, with the workshop: “Abc of Instagram, the 12 things you need to know for a perfect profile”, edited by Alessandra Polo.

Campaigns and businesses

With the seminar “Agriculture and territorial development. Managing an agricultural business”, Giuseppe Melis wanted to warn farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs. «Doing business, even in agriculture, involves multiple activities», says the professor of Economics at the University of Cagliari: «Many production units, however, are limited only to basic activities. That is, the cultivation of the land or the simple breeding of livestock, perhaps only with milking. An agricultural company, on the other hand, must also take care of much else: the transformation, for example, and therefore possibly the production of cheese; then, to marketing and company accounting.” This is the path to take to arrive at the desired change of pace. Giuseppe Melis continues: «It may happen that a breeder alone is not able to take care of all this. Well, we shouldn’t be discouraged. To make a leap in quality and increase the possibility of having an income, and perhaps even creating employment, it is necessary to structure ourselves differently.”

Training

It is the concept that recurs. Giuseppe Melis looks carefully at the island’s countryside, focuses its gaze above all on central Sardinia. Then, he recommends: «Breeders and farmers must first of all improve their individual skills. Next, they must learn to collaborate, to do things together with others. We need to look for those people who have the same interests and goals as us, to share. Only in this way can we improve and go far”. The university professor adds: «It is not necessary to be a large company. I know some very small family-run businesses that manage to have excellent “business performance”. Activities that process the milk, transform it and sell the cheese directly at significant prices, exploiting not large-scale distribution but privileged channels.” Just like he does Antonello Brau, everyday. This agricultural entrepreneur from Orotelli has built a model business. With his “casizolu” he gained access to the final of the Italian Cheese Awards, the prize dedicated to the best Italian cheeses, scheduled in Ancona in November. «I proudly consider myself both a producer and an agricultural entrepreneur», declares Brau, «ours is a small company, created and managed by my family. We travel throughout Italy to show our quality products, to make them known.” Antonello Brau specifies his mission: «Our aim is to bring the tourist home, to reveal our cheeses and to tell the whole story behind them». Not just quality cheeses, sheep and vaccines. From the town of the writer Salvatore Cambosu they underline the importance of the art of storytelling, an essential aspect for weaving virtuous plots and spreading the potential of the territory, starting from the countryside and the products of the table. «Visitors must come to us, only in this way can they fully understand the spirit of our company. Our products are of absolute quality because the animals are free to graze all year round. Animal welfare is fundamental. The hope is that many young people will follow my example, because today the countryside is becoming depopulated.”

New encounters

After the recent stop in Orotelli, the Destination Inside Sardinia machine gets back in motion and it will land Tuesday 28 May in Fonni. The most “social” event of the program will take place in the spaces of the Ceas Gennargentu. At 3.30pm the workshop on Instagram will begin, intended for tourism operators: “The ABCs of Instagram, the 12 things you need to know for a perfect profile”, edited by Alessandra Polo (digital strategist, consultant and trainer in social media communication). Finally, closing the June 7th in Orgosolofrom 3.30pm, with the seminar “The value of digital communication in tourism”edited by Gianluigi Tiddia, expert in social communication and digital marketing.
