the appeal of the Tuscany consumer movement to map over 60 polluted sites – www.controradio.it

In a note it is requested that: “The Region and the competent authorities carry out the necessary epidemiological investigations to identify keu”, the toxic waste from tannery processing, “in light of the identification of as many as 60 other sites polluted by tannery poisons. Without a map we will never definitively solve the problem and we must avoid this”

The Tuscany Consumer Movement appeals with a note that the “Region and the competent authorities carry out the necessary epidemiological investigations to identify keu”, the toxic waste from tannery processing, “in light of the identification of as many as 60 other polluted sites, from the poisons of the tanneries” which “makes it necessary to launch a worthy epidemiological investigation” and considering that “the Tenants Union of Pisa has already underlined how the Regional Health Agency (Ars) has not been involved in any epidemiological monitoring activity in relation to the keu problem, endorsing what we already reported some time ago”. The Tuscany Consumer Movement also states that “this demonstrates a lack of respect towards all the citizens involved in this serious matter. An event which, according to scientific studies, could lead to the formation of hexavalent chromium, a known carcinogenic substance”, he also recalls that at the beginning of May “we asked for a report from Commissioner Giuseppe Vadalà to provide us with the data of the activity carried out regarding the census of all the sites involved, including any private homes. We believe it is essential to launch an epidemiological investigation by the competent authorities in synergy with those who should have identified all the polluted sites, given the seriousness of the incident.” “An efficient research activity is necessary with the main objective of carrying out a timely census of the places reached by polluting substances – concludes the note from Mc Toscana – Without a map we will never definitively solve the problem and we must avoid this”.

The Circolo Sinistra Italiana Valdera Valdicecina joins the appeal with the following statement: “We continue to see in the press a series of generic reassurances on how the cleanup is being conducted in the Green Park area in Pontedera. While expressing satisfaction with the declarations on the ARPAT checks and the results obtained regarding the absence of pollution of underground and surface waters carried out on 22 April 2024, we do not consider the declarations of joint inspections and delivery of programs to be exhaustive, we do not understand why of this reclamation program and in particular in which landfill the KEU will be delivered is not clearly disclosed. What are you afraid of? We are certain that the bodies in charge of the controls and the ownership of the Green Park which is working on the clean-up have and are doing everything with extreme rigor and therefore we do not understand why we are able to publicly declare what is being carried out. Why is everything hidden? While waiting for the judiciary to reveal the new sites polluted by Keu in Tuscany, we would like to know clearly the Pontedera disposal plan and to which landfill the Keu is disposed of, thus implementing transparent traceability of the entire operation which affects other territories. A regional demonstration of the movements dealing with issues related to Keu and landfills is scheduled for June 1st. It would be desirable for all the data cited in the press by the municipality of Pontedera to be made public by that date. It is no longer time for generic reassurances, the citizens of Pontedera, Valdera and the places where the Keu will be awarded have the right to complete and clear information. ”

“The keu situation here is highly worrying.” The Hon. then noted. Erica Mazzetti, parliamentarian of Forza Italia and member of the VIII Environment Commission, during an inspection today of the Green Park area of Pontedera, where there are “over 10 thousand tons of materials that require high costs to be sent elsewhere”, a polluted area ” which however is freely accessible despite being fenced” and an area “which often goes under water – he reports – and which, with the November flood, was flooded”. “There are currently 13 contaminated sites – adds Mazzetti – but there could be others, up to 60, spread across the regional territory”. Participating in the inspection were Matteo Bagnoli, centre-right mayoral candidate in Pontedera, Lorenzo Paladini, provincial coordinator of Forza Italia, and Francesca Morelli, leader of Forza Italia. “Given that, as per the recent ruling of the Council of State which overturned that of the TAR, the property must pay for the reclamation, I expect – remarks Mazzetti – that the Municipality and the Region will be more committed. Only a change in the leadership of the Municipality will be a guarantee, as far as I can do I will continue with legislative and parliamentary acts and initiatives, with the Environment Commission and with the Ministry”. “It is a priority that reclamation proceeds quickly – she highlights – because nearby there are the school village, the sports field, a residential neighborhood ‘Il Giardino’ and a water purification plant”. The centre-right “must also build a clear and inexpensive system for the disposal of special waste”. “In any case, while the various PD exponents have dematerialized, after the outbreak of the keu case which sees Giulia Deidda and Andrea Pieroni among the suspects, we – claims Mazzetti – are present and working both for the reclamation and for the correct management of the waste. The government will do its part.”
