Security alarm at Carmine Alto: also the city councilor Filomeno Di Popolo is ready to take to the field again to meet the needs of residents who, just the other day, started yet another signature collection to ask the municipal administration to install a video surveillance system with the aim of acting as a deterrent to to thefts and damages which are occurring with increasing frequency in thearea between via Guadalupo, via Laspro, via Cavallo, via Seripando, via La Mennolella and via Calenda. The issue will now be brought to the city council: on the occasion of the approval of the final budget it will be necessary to understand if there are margins to be able to intervene, from an economic point of view, not only in that area of the city where protests have been growing for some time , but also in the vicinity of Piazza San Francesco, and specifically the Carmine church: here the parish priest has repeatedly reported the presence of annoying and often drunk and threatening homeless people. «About a year ago – recalls Di Popolo – I wrote tomunicipal safety councilor Claudio Tringali, about the need to install cameras in via Cavallo where these acts of vandalism frequently occur, and we carried out a joint inspection with him and a municipal technician, to evaluate what was necessary for the installation. A few days ago, I returned to the office to also advocate for the positioning of a video surveillance system in front of the Carmine Sanctuary. Councilor Tringali was and has proven to be available, given that al Municipality Data Processing Center a new manager was assigned who could take charge of the case. Among other things, the mayor Vincenzo Napoli is also aware of the issue, having taken part in another inspection, after used syringes and bottles of water were also found in the car park on Via Cavallo, testifying to the fact that in the area, drug dealing also proliferates, thanks to isolation and poor lighting.” The main problem, explains Tringali, is that to install the cameras it is necessary to carry out excavation works that can connect the equipment to the fibre, in order to make the system effectively capable of ferreting out any episodes of petty crime.

«We are currently proceeding to equip these systems the area of the seafront and Piazza della Libertà – anticipates Tringali – But we will certainly also discuss the problems of the upper Carmine. We met the representatives of the neighborhood committee and the residents on several occasions and we never shied away from a sincere discussion”. Therefore, all that remains is to understand whether the administration will be able to find the necessary resources to respond to the requests of the inhabitants of the neighborhood, ready to sign yet another petition.
