“With two dates the Arena is not sustainable: we need to grow”

“We are enthusiastic and super proud of the organization of the Ac/Dc concert at the Rcf Arena. But now we need to do more for the program of events.”

This is the assessment of Mauro Macchiaverna, administrator of C.Volo – the group of seven companies that invested and manages the Rcf Arena at a strategic and operational level – in the aftermath of the historic live performance of the Australian band.

Macchiaverna, are you satisfied?

“More. This is the second international event after the one in 2023 with Harry Styles. This time we had the rock legend in Reggio. And we are also very happy with the impact that this concert had on tourism: international people arrived who they didn’t know Reggio and they appreciated it. We are proud of the whole organization, we have to thank them.”

Now the next events are Elrow Town (on the boulevard on 8 June) and the big Rammstein concert (on 21 July). Perhaps two/three dates in an entire summer are few for a structure like this. Did you expect more?

“We can still improve, grow. Especially in terms of the number of concerts, we need to enrich our schedule. With productions we are trying to bring new events, providing this service: there is no arena like this in Italy. It’s a long job , challenging. But I’m sure we’ll get the result.”

With two big live shows a year, is the Arena economically sustainable?

“No. We made a significant investment in the years before Covid and with two major events we are unable to recover the costs. We have to increase the dates. But we are confident”.

In addition to the big international concerts, could the goal be to focus on the boulevard?

“The ‘boulevard’ is a very important resource to be exploited. And the arena can also be modulated for shows seating 30/40 thousand people, as happened for Zucchero. Now we need the productions to help us. After these two important events, without accidents , with people having fun we gained credibility.

What would be an ideal billboard?

“We need to find a balance with the city: I would say that with three big events and 2/3 small ones in the boulevard we would be more than satisfied.”
